New for 2019 we will be having a 5k race series. The series will consist of four races on the following dates and times:
- Thursday, May 16th at 6pm
- Thursday, May 30th at 6pm
- Tuesday, June 11th at 6pm
- Friday, June 28th at 9pm (you will need to carry a light for this race!)
The current course will be available during our Wednesday group runs to allow more people to participate in the series. However, you must use Strava for us to count your group run times.
Points will be tracked throughout the series and the overall male and female winners at the end of the series will receive a nice plaque, the title of REP’s 2019 Runner of the Year, and will get free entry into Ray’s Trail Race in September. All four races will count towards the series points and if we have enough participation we will add some age group awards as well. You do not have to do all four races to be eligible for the awards, however, the more races you do the more points you can earn. Because we are giving such short notice we are going to allow runners to clock times during our group runs through May 29th that will count towards the race series.
The cost for each race will be a $5 donation. All money will go towards scholarships to send local high school cross country runners to the Southeastern Ohio Cross Country Camp in Portsmouth, Ohio. We will have water and some basic snacks post race but you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks if you want to hang out. There will be no medals or race shirts, this race series is all about getting fast trail miles in while helping our local cross country runners.
The courses will feature 100-150 feet of elevation gain per mile and you should expect mud, roots, and rocks. Each race will feature a different course or the reverse direction of a previous course. The final night race will definitely require a light so be prepared.
